Betis-Mallorca
By: Jeremy | October 18th, 2008After losing at home to pointless Sporting Gijon, Mallorca got a couple of weeks off to stew over a loss at home that they should have gotten three points but instead got nothing leaving their fans wondering what kind of team we have.
Mallorca seems like a team that can revamp their whole lineup and still play the big teams well and lose to the bottom teams. We cant seem to get up for the games where points should be easier to get and that makes the season very frustrating, especially after good performances seem to create some excitement.
So with the team buried in its typical mid table mediocrity, we face the second boogie game in a row with new bottom club Betis. Betis has not won a game all year and is now in last place because we gave Gijon their first three points of the year. Instead of being at home to the bottom team where we would expect three points, we hit the road and face a team that is getting Edu and Garcia back. These are their two best players. With Chapparo on the hot seat, this is really a must win for Betis or they could see a new manager by the next game. This is their ideal game to turn things around.
Mallorca cant seem to create any kind of momentum. A good performance is immediately followed up by a bad performance. With what has been a relatively easy schedule so far, our position is not bad considering the new players, but the inconsistency makes it hard to figure which direction we are heading. With Aduriz set to miss this game because of injury and Arango tired because of all the international games he is playing, it is going to be tough to score on the road when your best hope for goals is Pierre Webo. While the talent exists with the new players, there is no reason to think we can create any kind of result after such a long layoff. Manzano will do all he can to prepare the players, but this seems like a give away game while they get back in the swing of things.
Expect Betis to come out fast with Edu trying to inspire his team to safety or maybe more. By the time Mallorca reacts and relaxes, they will be down a couple of goals. While we will be a better team in the second half, Betis will have shown that they are not the worst team in La Liga. Bad timing for us to get this game.
Prediction
Betis 3-1 Mallorca
