Hey Barca!! Come Get Some!!

Is that Barcelona I see slowly watching their insurmountable lead in LaLiga dissolve into next to nothing? If they want to give LaLiga to Real Madrid, why not come down to Palma for a midweek game and let us score goals on your Ole defense in the same manner Atletico did today so we can knock them out of the Copa.

If you think Barca in the final of the Copa is a done deal, think again. Yeah I know we are in the hole by two goals and the odds of us scoring two goals in a game are seemingly zero considering how our offense has played lately, but dont forget our good friend Uncle Mo. Uncle Mo is heading to Palma and will be our side midweek when we try to secure a birth into the final of the Copa. Sometimes momentum can overcome a team with better talent.

While Barca is slowly giving the title to Real Madrid, which I am glad to see if I have to choose between the two, Mallorca continues to show that they are not going to be relegated so easily. Thanks to a great free kick by Arango, who was iffy to even play because of a slight injury, we pulled out another valuable 1-0 win against Sporting Gijon. This is our third straight win and is the latest step in a Hector Cuper like revival for what seemed like a team doomed to relegation. We are now in the mix of about 10 teams that could be this years Real Zaragoza. While Numancia and even Espanyol are acting aggressively to take 2 of the 3 relegation spots, the third one is still wide open. These 1-0 wins are great but we need to score more goals as these kind of low scoring results cannot be expected to continue and we have to show we can come back and that our offense does have some talent. How about a midweek game with Barca to show it.

For all the happiness and confidence being felt in Palma, there is still so much to do and the team is slowly understanding what a predicament they were in after the first half of the season. For all the great results recently, we are still a threat for relegation and we have yet to see the big four teams that will close out our season while many of our rivals have already played some or all of their matches against these teams. We are however going through that phase of our schedule where if we were ever going to show we want La Liga football next year, it is now. Its great to see us build a slight buffer against direct rivals.

As for Barca, the team and its fans can say all they want, but they are worried. While Barca has in recent years emerged as the better team between themselves and Madrid in Champions League play, Madrid has to be the better team in LaLiga. Barca is worried about what may ultimately be a very embarassing finish if they do not win the league. With these worries now in place and focus having to shift to the league as well as Europe, maybe they will forget they have a match this week in Palma.

While we cannot let up and we still have important games coming up that are must wins to further solidify our safety, look for us to put up more of a fight then expected in order to get to the final. The players are confident, we are at home where the fans might be feeling happy for the first time in awhile, and combined with Barcas panic, there could be a surprise result. It might also be the surprise striker like Keita or Webo who gets some time and leads us to the final.
