Mallorca-Barcelona
By: Jeremy | May 16th, 2009If there was ever a meaningless match in LaLiga, it would be this one. With Real Madrids result, Barca are now the champs. Congrats to them. They also won the Copa this week too. Shocking. Mallorca did what it needed to do a couple of weeks ago, which was insure survival before the big four final games, where points would be difficult. That in itself was an acheivement with the changes from last year and the first half chaos. Manzano righted the ship and showed why he is in demand by bigger clubs. With each teams status now known, what is there to play for? Nothing. So obviously not much to preview.
Ive made my feelings known about Barca, but its not that big of a deal. Any team that typically plays them is a notch or two below and we have to accept it and hope that when we do play them, we dont need a result. We got lucky this year. They will be focused on the Champions League final, which I expect them to win, while we will likely be focused on nothing waiting for the season to end to see if Manzano stays and the right mix of players are brought back for next year. I will discuss that at another time.
The good news is the game is in Palma and it should be a fun relaxed stadium where we could see a whos who of reserve players for both teams. That means enjoy the fun and be glad we are coming back to LaLiga next year. Revenge for the Copa del Rey exit wont be on anyones mind and the game should be a kickaround with the focus of the fans being more on the festive atmosphere then the game. You need a game like that sometimes. Being in front of your home crowd can generate a little extra so with the players on the field for both sides probably being closer in talent then we would expect if the game meant something, then we can win this game.
Congrats again to Barca for a great year. They deserve to celebrate and I am sure the players will have a little fun at the right places on the island. The Riu Palace awaits. They showed their class on the field so party time in Palma for them. The big team from Madrid has some work to do. Maybe Kaka and Ronaldo will help. Thats about what it will take to close the gap. We have other issues.
Prediction
Mallorca 2-1 Barcelona
