Mallorca-Valladolid

By: Jeremy | September 27th, 2009

Mallorca hits round 5 with a comfortable 7 points despite the midweek 2-0 loss to Sevilla. While we would hope some momentum and the shown goal scoring prowess against the weaker La Liga teams might have lead to a surprise result in Seville, Mallorca simply is not in that class and losing points on the road to them is not upsetting or surprising. Therefore the team should not feel bad about the result but must immediately refocus for a home game against Valladolid, another La Liga also ran that we need to beat at home.

Valladolid is right where you expect them to start the season. They have four points from four matches and would be happy to finish just above the relegation zone. Marquitos, Sisi, and Diego Costa are decent players, but they really have no one worth mentioning that strikes fear in their opponents. They are all over the place in their results where they cant win at home and if not for a road win against Zaragoza, they would be right at the bottom. Mallorca must be careful with these guys but even at home, there should be no reason to give away points.

Mallorca has won the games they were supposed to win and will finish in the top half of the table if they continue to show this kind of early season consistency. Aduriz has shown why it was important we kept him as he leads the team with 4 goals but with Tuni, Webo, and Valero being rotated in and out, we have plenty of guys who can score. While we look to stablize the back this weekend with the possibility of Lux playing for a shaken up Aoute, Manzano is still looking for that consistency that will keep the team playing well enough to beat the bad teams and occasionally get a result against the top teams in La Liga. So far what he is doing is working.

Mallorcas start has to be praised especially with all the inconsistency going on with the other teams. There is no reason why we dont beat Valladolid at home and any other result will be surprising even if the match will be close fought.

Prediction: Mallorca 2-1 Valladolid

Prediction Record to date: 2-2

I’m enjoying seeing Mallorca doing so well considering all the drama that has surrounded them financially in the past year or so.

Another great result today against Valladolid.
