Osasuna-Mallorca
By: Jeremy | January 30th, 2009“The season begins now” seems to be the theme of the players and we head to Pamplona to play one of our direct relegation rivals. This match comes on the heels of a huge win over Valencia and a tense mid week road match against Betis that allowed us to qualify for the semi finals of the Copa. No small achievement considering the overall form of the team.
Recent performances have given the players the belief they can now move up the standings and get out of the relegation zone. Getting past Betis will set us up with a tough home/away match against Barca and lets hope these recent midweek games do not cause everyone to be tired to the point where they end up giving away points in league games they need to win. Speaking of giving up points, that is what we did in week two against Osasuna. Those two points might be more vaulable then we thought.
Osasuna is in dead last in La Liga so it is always good to play the team at the bottom even if we cant seem to do well in those games. I dont know too much about them to be honest but hopefully former Osa man Corralles, can give his teammates an insight on how to win in Pamplona. He knows the club.
With a modest unbeaten streak in place and the team having to feel good about the Copa result, maybe the mentality can help us steal a game on the road. Our road performance has been bad and it will be tough to get a win this weekend. The players know that this is the first game of many that will follow against teams that we need to beat so we are clear of the relegation zone coming into the last four weeks of the season.
Jurado and Aduriz need to be in fine form this weekend. With Trejo now back and the move to West Brom on hold, lets hope he can emerge as the player we expect him to be. The talent is there and maybe now it is finally gelling. We cant wait too long to turn thing around. With the entire bottom half of the table in the relegation fight, anything can happen. We do however have to win these games even on the road. The Copa play is going to catch up with us so I think a draw is the obvious result.
Prediction
Osasuna 1-1 Mallorca
